All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive at the time of booking confirmation or when you collect your vehicle. This agreement outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance information, fees, and your responsibilities associated with the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the latter will take priority.
Eligibility Criteria
Rental Vehicle Requirements
- To rent a vehicle, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with potential extra fees for drivers under 25. You need to possess a valid, full driving licence suitable for the vehicle category, held for the duration specified in the Rental Agreement. Valid identification and proof of your current address are required, along with payment information and a security deposit. Any additional requirements outlined in the Rental Agreement must also be fulfilled.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations for car hire can be completed via our website, by phone, or directly at our Thurso location. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking, while the remaining balance and security deposit are usually due at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, which are processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection in Thurso, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection and notify us of any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by both parties. Upon returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as when it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged as necessary. The vehicle should be returned with the same level of fuel as at pickup; refueling fees will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may incur extra charges, so please contact us as soon as possible if you expect to return the vehicle late. You are responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or related charges that arise during your rental, in addition to an administrative fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. The Rental Agreement outlines full coverage details and the excess amounts. You may have options to purchase additional insurance to lower your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for damages or loss up to the insurance excess, except when covered by additional insurance. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms falls under your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies depend on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For specific details, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for illegal activities, including racing, rallying, or off-roading. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited, as is sub-letting to others or permitting unauthorized drivers. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Additionally, avoid using the vehicle for purposes it is not designed for, exceeding passenger or weight limits, and driving outside the agreed geographical boundaries without prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
8. Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Thurso is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Legal Framework
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the jurisdiction of the relevant courts in this region.
10. Modifications to Terms
Thurso Car Hire reserves the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect as soon as they are posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
